Pest animal control project launched

Pest control is an integral part of our catchment groups’ action plans and visions. It supports a range of outcomes from improving biodiversity and preventing the spread of disease, to water quality and animal health.

We’re excited to launch our own Catchment Collective pest control project in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council. We’re offering our catchment groups a programme of assistance with expert advice and planning, monitoring to understand what’s in your patch, and help to find funding for traps. We can help you activate your group members to take part and skill you up in reporting and story telling to make it even easier to get more funding and support in the future.

We’ve teamed up with John Bissell from Backblocks Environmental Management for this project, so you’re in expert hands. All of this is fully funded by the Catchment Collective with the exception of trap hardware, which we’ll work on with each group to find the resources they need on a case by case basis.

We’re trialling the programme with a few catchment groups now and are looking to roll out to progressively more groups through next year. If you are keen for your group to take part, get in touch and we can talk about what’s involved.

In the meantime, if you have any burning questions about pest control in your catchment group, get in touch with John Hart, our Partnership Lead john@wairarapacc.nz and we can connect you with John Bissell to get you sorted.
